and rub gently with a soft cloth, rinse well, and pat dry.

+ To remove stubborn stains, rub with vinegar and gently rub
with a soft cloth, then rinse well and wipe dry.

Non-plated brass retains its unfaded features. And often worn brass will have a retro yellow haze color due to the protection of skin lipid. It will also produce different colors according to personal constitution and environmental factors. However, metal will naturally oxidize over time and exposure in the air or contact with sweat, rain or seawater etc.
